New Release and Review: Love Her by Andrea Johnston

Title: Love Her
Series: Military Men of Lexington
Author: Andrea Johnston
Genre & Tropes: Contemporary Romance; Small Town Romance; Military; Single Mom; Slow Burn; Redemption of the Mean Girl

My Thoughts and Review:
In Love Her we have another hot former military man who falls for a single mom. I truly enjoyed Connor and Felicity's story. The redeeming of the "mean girl" was a wonderful added touch.

Connor amazed me. He had never envisioned himself settling down. Then he saw/met Lis. "When she looks up, something happens. It isn't some dramatic moment like in a move or a historical novel. There isn't a bolt of lightning or an electric current that passes between us, but there's something. A shift of energy. A moment of pause as the world slows." I absolutely loved his description of the fate connection that he and Lis shared.

Some of my favorite scenes in this book included Lis's children Clem and Jacob. I loved how Connor did his best to encourage them, and build their confidence even before he started dating Lis.

Felicity
The day I left that small town behind, I swore I’d never be back. I was better than Lexington and its small-minded residents. No one bothered to look beyond the mask I wore to protect my heart.
Then or now.
Sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way we plan. Having kids was the best thing that I ever did. Returning to the one place I’m least welcome might be the most humiliating. The one thing about this town is a reputation follows you. So despite life humbling me, this town won’t forgive easily, and my past bad deeds still haunt me.

Connor
Running from one war to another in the military, I spent years trying to find what was meant for me, to figure out where I belonged. It wasn’t in the city where I grew up or overseas. My soul needed settling and Lexington seemed like a good place to be alone.
Then I met her.
She owned my attention from the moment I saw her, my heart right after. Through the grapevine, I learned Felicity had a past worth gossiping about. So do I. Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to her.
I moved here for a fresh start, a second chance to live a peaceful life, but she has me reevaluating that plan. Maybe it’s not peace I need but love that I’ve been missing all along.

**The Military Men of Lexington series is a series of interconnected, standalone, small town romances.**
This is the final book in the MMoL trilogy, and the end of Lexington.

“Dating. Yes or no.”
“I don’t know.”
Because I don’t. Can I date? Sure. My parents would love it. Heck, I think my kids would love it more. Have I? Hell no. I’ve been too busy trying to figure out how I was so stupid to give a man nine years of my life to only walk away with a suitcase of clothes and a few photos.
“I would like to take you out. If I were to ask you, what would you say?”
He moves a fraction of an inch, one hand resting on the counter next to me. I’m not caged and could easily move if I wanted. I don’t.
“I think I would say yes.”
Slowly, he smiles. His big brown eyes brighten. I notice for the first time how long his lashes are. Slowly he blinks, his gaze dropping to my lips. My breathing increases in anticipation.
“Lis?”
“Hmm?”
“I’d like to kiss you.”
“Mm-hmm.”
He’s rendered me speechless already and he hasn’t even touched me. Slowly, he steps into my space, his free hand resting on my hip while he lifts the hand from the counter and cups my face. His thumb, rubbing circles on my cheekbone is rough on my soft skin, sending shivers down my spine.
Time stands still as he leans down, lips gently brushing across mine. It’s barely a touch, so light I wonder if I’ve imagined it. I know I didn’t when he brushes them again, this time with purpose. His lips are soft and full. I’ve wondered how I’d feel in this moment. The first kiss after Michael. I realize quickly this isn’t only the first post-divorce kiss, this is the best first kiss of my life.

Review: Promise Her by Andrea Johnston

Blurb:
No one knows the secret I’ve buried inside.

When the unimaginable happens, the past doesn’t matter. Only the future. Only this baby.

The grief and guilt are overwhelming, especially when I find comfort in my late husband’s best friend. Taylor Cain isn’t known for letting others in, but he’s here for me in a way no one else is.

Even though I’m playing with fire, his arms are the only place I feel safe.

***
Life can change in the blink of an eye.

When I lose my best friend, I bury my own grief to be there for his pregnant widow.

Somehow between vowing to protect Scarlett Gilbert and her baby to holding her in my arms, I developed feelings for her. Feelings I question are within my right. Having her in my life makes me feel alive for the first time.

Between her commitment to his memory and respect for my best friend, we fear judgment for the love we share.

Some say promises are made to be broken, but when I promise her my heart, I intend to keep it.

My Thoughts and Review:
This is an incredible military man, small town, single parent, forbidden romance.

Scarlet is an amazing heroine. She goes through so much and stays so strong throughout the book. Of course having a man like Taylor around to help support her doesn't hurt at all. Taylor was amazing. He fought so hard not to fall for her, feeling guilty because of the death of her husband.

Then there were all of the other supporting characters. Each just a incredible as the next. Leaving you hoping you get all of their stories at some point.

I will be reading and reviewing Cherish Her (Military Men of Lexington book 2) later this week.  Love Her (Military Men of Lexington book 3) releases next week July 23rd.  Watch for my review on that day!!!

Review: Beautiful Hearts Duet by Emma Scott

Blurb:
I fell for Connor Drake. I didn’t want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow.

I’m in love with Connor…so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there’s electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can’t keep me away.

But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I’ll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle…for both of them.

**********
Bring Down the Stars is an emotional, angst-filled novel of unrequited love by bestselling author, Emma Scott, and is inspired by the classic tale, Cyrano de Bergerac. (Roxanne) It is Book I in the Beautiful Hearts Duet, coming this summer. Book II, Long Live the Beautiful Hearts, to be released a few weeks later. THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL LOVE TRIANGLE #confusedhearts #notamenage

My Thoughts and Review:
Absolutely beautiful

What would you do for your best friend? Would you stand back and let him have the girl you love?

Weston is such an incredibly deep character. He is willing to sacrifice everything for the important people in his life. He refuses to fall in love himself, feeling as though he isn't worth it.

Autumn doesn't want to fall in love again, or even date for that matter. After discovering her previous boyfriend cheating on her she is done being hurt.

Connor has never been enough for his parents. He is easy going, and a great friend, but just can't win with his parents.

When these 3 meet they become the mother of all love triangles. Make sure you have time to go straight into book 2 when you finish book one. This book is so beautiful and amazing.

Blurb:
Never again would I allow my heart to become the plaything of someone else.
Never again would I let a man (or men) come between me and my goals.
Never again would I love without feeling the fullness of that love in return.
Not until I knew it was real. And if that took me a lifetime to find, so be it.

Those were my vows, and after all that had happened with Connor and Weston, I was determined to keep them. To protect my heart.
And then he came home, and my vows became his promises.

He held my heart in his hands with reverence and care.
He helped me find my soul’s greatest purpose in life.
He loved me with a love so pure and vibrant, I knew I’d never feel anything like it in a hundred lifetimes.
It was real.

Until it wasn’t.
Until it all came crashing down when I discovered the deep love I thought I’d found was nestled in a web of lies—so soft and silken I hadn’t noticed it was there.
Until it was too late.

Long Live the Beautiful Hearts is the emotional, heart-wrenching conclusion to the Beautiful Hearts Duet by bestselling author, Emma Scott, and is inspired by the classic tale, Cyrano de Bergerac. (Roxanne) THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL LOVE TRIANGLE #confusedhearts #notamenage
THIS BOOK IS NOT A STANDALONE. It should not be read without first reading Bring Down the Stars

My Thoughts and Review:
This is the perfect conclusion to the Beautiful Hearts duet. Each of the characters have so much growth. The way the each have to overcome their own difficulties is incredible. These characters will forever hold a place in my heart.

New Release and Review: Morning Star by S Massery

Blurb

DALTON

Our sins are written in blood, and only blood can atone for what we’ve done.

Retribution comes in unexpected forms. Mine has amber eyes. Golden hair. A smile that could kill. She was mine the minute I dragged her down to hell, and now we’re both paying the price.

I tried to save her… and failed.

GRACE

Rumors call him the Morning Star. My father only called him the devil.

The man who saved my life in one second and destroyed it in the next has returned for me. He says he’s not leaving until I’m his. The issue is, he’ll have to break past my grudge--and a pretty big gun--if he wants me.

I took a shot at the devil… and missed.

My Thoughts and Review:

First, have you met Dalton Kavanaugh?????  He is an A$$hole with a capital A.  But he the type of character that even when he is a supporting character you can't help but love.  After reading Blood Sky and Angel of Death I have been anxiously awaiting Dalton's story.  S. Massery blew this one out of the water.  Talk about a home run here.

In Morning Star we meet Grace Jones.  Daughter of a mob enforcer, forced into an engagement to the mob bosses son, after he tries to sell her as a sex slave.  Wait?!?.....What?!?  This girl is being put through hell by her own father.  I mean really that is some terrible luck.  Thank goodness Dalton comes to her rescue.  But who is really saving who here.

Dalton may be an a$$hole, but he has more than met his match with Grace.  She puts him in his place on more than one occasion.  Grace is just as amazing of a character as Dalton.  I love the way the whole crew comes to Dalton and Grace's aid.  In Morning Star we are joined by old favorites (Mason, Jackson, Zach, Griffin, Hadley, and Delia)  and we meet some new friends as well (Collin, and even Luca).

This book is absolutely amazing and will keep you turning pages right through to the end!!!!
