Review: Watch Me Drown by C.E. Johnson

Blurb:
They just stood there. Watching me drown. Not one hand reached out to save me. So I quit looking for someone to grab onto and let the water take me.

I thought this part of my life was over. Even though the restraining order against my father expired years ago, I wasn’t expecting him to show up in my life again. I had no idea the mysterious man that stands at the river’s edge would be the one to defend me. After one night in Everest’s protection, the idea was for us to go our separate ways. Instead, my life gets turned upside down and now I want more than just his safety. I want his scarred heart, too.

*

Don’t make other people’s problems your own. I learned long ago to keep my head down and my eyes pointed at the road ahead. But trying to ignore the beautiful woman at the park isn’t just difficult. It’s impossible. When I find out she’s in danger, not only do I make her problem mine, keeping her safe becomes my priority. Falling for Danielle wasn’t part of the plan. And now, it could take me down faster than any undertow.

My Thoughts and Review:

One of my favorite things about being a book blogger, book reviews, and Bookstagrammer are finding new to me authors.  I consider it an honor when authors reach out to me and ask me if I would be interested in reading their work.  I am so glad I was able to fit this author's newest book into my schedule this month.  I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for the next book.

Sometimes after I read a book the hardest thing to do is figure out how to begin my review of that book. This is one of those times. This is a book I want to SHOUT about, tell you everything about this book. Yet, I don't want this review to be filled with spoilers. So, where do I begin?

"Women are delicate. Every one of them has a piece of her that's more fragile than the finest crystal. Even the ones who threaten you with a lug wrench and can conquer the world all on their own."- Everest, Watch Me Drown by C.E. Johnson

This book has absolutely amazing characters. There's Dani, who is determined to make it on her own away from her over-protective/over-bearing mother. She is strong, caring, and passionate, but not necessarily good at meeting people and making friends. Then there's Everest. He is this damaged, broody, moody, bad boy, alpha male who is determined that he will never fall in love. Then fate brings them together and just keeps pushing them towards each other.

Then the supporting characters are just as amazing. I have to mention George, the dalmatian, I am not sure I have ever loved a pet character in a book as much as I loved George. He was a lazy, yet protective dog.

"I always trust a dog when they bark at someone; they're smarter than more of the humans I know. They have special asshole sensors and can spot them a mile away. They also have angel senses and tend to flock to those who are worthy of their love."- Everest, Watch Me Drown by C.E. Johnson

If you want a book filled with smut, this isn't for you. If you want a clean romance, also, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for an unexpected romance, with a bit of suspense, and just enough sexy scenes you will love this book.

The last thing I want to make sure I say about this book, is just wait for the unexpected twist. It will knock your socks off!!!!

Blog Tour and Review: Stroke of Midnight by K Webster

Stroke of Midnight by K Webster is now live!

From USA Today bestselling author K Webster comes a brand new forbidden romance that's going to leave you speechless.
Money can buy anything. And anyone.
As the head of the Constantine family, I'm used to people bowing to my will. Cruel, rigid, unyielding--I'm all those things.
When I discover the one woman who doesn't wither under my gaze, but instead smiles right back at me, I'm intrigued. Ash Elliott needs cash, and I make her trade in crudeness and degradation for it.
I crave her tears, her moans, her submission. I pay for each one. And every time, she comes back for more.
When she challenges me with an offer of her own, I have to decide if I'm willing to give her far more than cold hard cash. But love can have deadly consequences when it comes from a Constantine. At the stroke of midnight, that choice may be lost for both of us.

 My Thoughts and Review:

Sometimes in life prince charming is actually the villain of the story. Ash Elliot enters into a twisted business type relationship with Winston Constantine. Not every relationship is created equal. That doesn't make them any less important. Ash and Winston have a unique chemistry that works for them.

"Maybe I want to be reckless with you," -Winston Constantine, Stroke of Midnight by K Webster

Ash is an amazing character. She is working to replace her college fund that her father blew through trying to impress his new wife. Winston is a powerful man. He is used to getting what he wants and punishing those who wrong him in any way. The relationship between these two walks so many fine lines. There is so much heat brewing between the two of them.

Like any good Cinderella retelling, this story has the step mother, to me she didn't seem terribly wicked, but she definitely wasn't good. The evil step brothers, otherwise known as the Terror Triplets in this story were absolute monsters. I don't know that I have ever wanted to kill a character as much in my life as I did (and still do) want to kill Scout.

This book is everything I have come to expect from K Webster. There are so many interesting characters and possible side storylines I can't wait to see where her wicked mind takes these characters. I need so many more book to follow in this series.

Excerpt

I don’t want to clean.

I want to sit behind a desk and crunch numbers. Talk shop. Plan expansions. My dad is an economic analyst, which is what I want to be too. I’d always imagined us going into business together and heading up our own firm.

Cleaning won’t get me there.

I suppose playing nice with Manda the Maneater is my only resort at this point.

For the next hour, I rush through all the offices that don’t need much more than the trash cans emptied, and then make it to the CEO’s office. One day, I’ll have an office like Winston Constantine, but I won’t be some old fuddy duddy. I’ll be a boss babe with style. My employees will love me, because I imagine I’ll be cool as hell. Rather than hire a boring interior designer like whatever robot chose the furniture and décor for Halcyon, I’ll do it all myself.

I’m once again daydreaming of my future that seems more and more murky these days as I fumble through my email on my phone to find the code to get into Big Man’s office. Of all the offices, this one is the coldest and most boring. As though whoever Winston Constantine is, he doesn’t do any sort of work, but instead gazes out the windows all day.

Finally, I locate the code and punch it in.

It’s like twelve numbers long, and I fail a few times before it grants me entry. With a sigh of frustration, I push the door open and drag my rolling cart in after me into the dark office. I hit the light switch with my elbow and leave my cart in front of the door to prop it open. I fidget with the dumb uniform skirt I have to wear and wonder if anyone would notice if I wore jeans instead.

I grab the duster and make a beeline over to the painting on the wall. It’s the best part of the office besides the cool desk that moves up and down and the windows overlooking the most picturesque parts of New York City. I touch the bottom of the frame to check for dust. As I imagined it to be, there’s not a speck.

I’m just moving to the bookshelves when I hear a creak.

“You’re supposed to clean it, not pretend,” a deep, furious voice growls, scaring the ever-loving shit out of me.

“What the fuck, man?” I snap, whirling around, dropping my duster in the process. “You can’t just sneak up…” I trail off as I drink in the man sitting in the desk chair.

Holy shit.

Was he here the whole time?

Fucking creepy!

But there’s nothing creepy about his looks. He’s not a fuddy duddy either, if this is Winston Constantine. He’s fine as hell.

Older. Dressed to the nines in a three-piece navy suit that looks custom-tailored and expensive. A handsome, villainous smirk on his face. His dark blond hair is shorter on the sides and longer on top, styled perfectly, making it look as though he came from a photoshoot at Gucci or something. Just enough scruff to give him an edge despite his otherwise clean-cut appearance. It’s his eyes that are mesmerizing.

Dark blue. Intense. Penetrating.

For some reason, it makes me think about my ex-boyfriend, Tate. The exact opposite of this man. Soft and sweet and gullible. Tate and I were a high school thing, but the moment we graduated a couple of weeks ago, we amicably broke it off knowing we were headed in different directions. This guy looks anything but soft, sweet, or gullible.

He looks scary.

Scary hot.

But still scary.

I clear my throat. “Sorry. I’ll just empty your trash and be out of your way.”

“No,” he rumbles, his voice dripping in a menacing tone. “I’ve been waiting for you. It’s time we chat, little girl.”

New Release and Review: Reforming Kent by Siobhan Davis

Release Date: October 23

An angsty, emotional new adult romance from USA Today bestseller Siobhan Davis. Stand-alone with an HEA and no cliff-hanger.

Kent
Rogue. Troublemaker. Bad Boy. Delinquent.
Everyone thinks they know who I am, but they know nothing.
And that's how I prefer it.
Keeping my demons under lock and key is my only survival tactic.
Until a gorgeous feisty bartender enters my life, turning it upside down. Presley captivates me in a way no woman ever has, and I can’t get her out of my mind.
She’s determined to resist me, but I’m equally stubborn and more than up for the challenge. Winning her trust, and her heart, becomes everything because she shows me a future worth fighting for.
But the consequences of my tortured past are far-reaching, and if I don’t let her go, I'll only drag Presley down this dark hole with me.

Presley
Since I aged out of the foster system, I’ve worked hard for my dream future, and it’s so close. Too close to let some arrogant rich playboy distract me.
I’ve heard all about Kent Kennedy, and with my history of troubled bad boys, I need his attention like a hole in the head.
Except he’s nothing I expected and everything I never dared to dream of. As I slowly uncover the truth, I discover a broken man with a big heart who desperately needs someone to see him.
I want to be that person, but his demons loom large, and I don’t know if I’m strong enough to do this again.
When the past rears its ugly head, shattering everything, will there be anything left of my heart to protect?

My Thoughts and Review:
Wow, Kent and Presley go through so much in the early stages of their relationship.  They have incredible chemistry.  This was the first book I have read by Siobhan Davis.  I will agree that this book is a stand-alone, but I also wish I read read the previous books in the series, just for more background on some of the characters.  There are so many incredible and unique characters in this book.  I love the family dynamic that the Kennedy family has.  I really enjoyed reading this book.

My Thoughts and Review:
Nikki Ash and K Webster are two of my favorite authors. When they team up it typically results in magic happening. Torn Apart is everything I had hoped it would be and more.

This is told from the view points of 4 different characters. Brayden, the hockey player, and all around player. Mia, the gamer, tutor, college freshman, trying to escape her overbearing mom. Drew, the former NHL player, now hockey coach. Last but far from least... Ashton, the dean's openly gay son, slacker, and swimmer. Mia and Ashton are best friends. Brayden and Drew have an obvious history. When the four of them start interacting sparks fly, and jealousy roars.

"I'm matte in a glossy world." -Mia Torn Apart by K Webster and Nikki Ash

This line is one that I can really relate to. I truly loved Mia. To be completely honest I loved all of these characters. The boys were each unique to each other. They were each a little bit broody in their own way. I loved how Drew points out to Ashton that not everything needs to have a label. Labels are Black and White, where the world is shades of Gray.

I can not wait for the second book in this duet. I need the rest of this story.

New Release and Review: Vicious Desire by S Massery

Blurb:

*A Dark High School Bully Romance*

Riley Appleton loves to hate me.

It’s my fault the hate is there in the first place. She needed somewhere to direct her anger, and I volunteered to be the target.

Being adored is boring.
I wanted something different.

Each jab that falls from her pretty mouth is a challenge, and the more we fight, the hotter we burn.

But soon, this game of ours goes too far. She needs to be reminded who really rules this relationship.

Our feud is a joke—but in the end, I’ll be the only one laughing.

This is a dark high school bully romance with mature content and themes. It contains dubious situations that some readers may find offensive. If you're looking for a white knight hero, this book is not for you.

Books 1-3 are a trilogy and need to be read together. Vicious Desire is the first standalone in the series.

My Thoughts and Review:

"A split second alters your life forever." Riley, Vicious Desire by S Massery.

Where do I even start with this review? This book is amazing. If you have already read the other books in S. Massery's Fallen Royals series you will have already met Eli and Riley, as well as several of the other supporting characters in this book. If you have not read the first 3 books yet.....I highly recommend you read them, although I don't feel like it is absolutely necessary to enjoy this book.

Eli and Riley have an interesting dynamic to their relationship. I wouldn't call this an enemies-to-lovers. I also wouldn't call it a friends-to-lovers. Let's call this a frenemies-to-lovers. Which just makes the tension in this book absolutely amazing. As Eli say "I like that about her. I'm angry enough to kill her one moment and protecting her the next."

I have to say, I think I am glad I went to public school. I don't know if every private school has as much drama as Emery Rose Elite, but I am glad that I didn't have to go through what these kids do.

I loved how we learn so much about how Riley and Eli's relationship developed, fell apart, came back together, and fell apart again before the current events in the story. I always have been a sucker for a second (third) chance romance.

Through the first part of this book, I felt a little lost with the reasons behind some of the characters thoughts and actions. As the story unfolds though, the pieces start falling into place. This story comes together beautifully in the end. The questions just added to the suspense of the story.

I love the twisted, wicked, vicious mind of S. Massery. I almost wish I could spend a day, hour, heck I would settle for a minute in her mind to see how it works. She has created an incredible wicked world with her Fallen Royals series. I can not wait for the next book to see where she takes us. This is one of those series that I don't think I could ever get enough books from.

Fresh out of Vet school, I married Pierce Aldridge. Gorgeous, sexy, and smart. He’s a philanthropist with a heart of gold, or so I thought.

After a while he became distant, self-centered, and callous. The man I married disappeared before my eyes. I should leave him, but I can’t do it just yet.

There’s one thing I need but I can’t have it if I divorce him. Just a few more months...

But my plans fall through when his father dies.

The man was just as ruthless as his son.

Now I can either spend eighteen months with Pierce in his hometown playing the happy couple or I could avoid the ordeal entirely if I sign the divorce papers. But I would lose the one thing I’ve been wanting my whole life.

The more time that passes, the more I realize that maybe I’ve been wrong.

Maybe the man I married is still there. The man I still love.

But is it too late?

My Thoughts and Review:

Sometimes in life you meet that one person, and you just know.  You instantly feel some sort of connection.  It is easy to get wrapped up in them.  That's how it was for Pierce and Leyla when they met.

"However, falling in love involves a lot more than where you came from. It's about who you are at that exact moment.  That's also why people fall out of love.  We don't grow with each other, and one day you wake up next to a stranger." - Defying Our Forever

This story is heartbreaking. It is healing.  It is everything a second chance romance should be.

I loved getting the back story to Pierce and Leyla.  Learning about their pasts, and their relationship.  Reading their beginning was incredible.  True love only comes once in a life time.  If you let it slip away, you will never feel complete.  The depth of these characters never ceases to amaze me.  The stupid mistakes some of these brothers made after Carter died are unbelievable.  Watching Pierce grow through this book was incredible.

I feel like each time I read a new Aldridge brother's book I find a new favorite brother.  I can not wait to see what is coming for the rest of the brothers.

My Thoughts and Review:
This is quite possibly one of the sweetest, most romantic love stories I have ever read. For those of you looking for a clean romance, this is it. It is an Insta-love, clean, sweet romance that will have you chuckling, swooning, and crying happy tears. It is so beautifully written. There are so many incredible characters.
