Release Blitz and Review: The Pickup by Nikki Ash

Title: The Pickup
Series: Imperfect Love Book 1
Author: Nikki Ash
Genre: Sports Romance Standalone
Release Date: February 7, 2019

Somebody once said we don’t decide who we love. The world decides for us. But I disagree.
I believe love is a decision.
Who we love, how we love.
It’s in our control--in our hands.
I grew up having no clue about the true meaning of love. Money. Cars. Houses. Status. Fame. That’s what love means to the people around me.
It wasn’t until the woman I picked up in a bar came back into my life and showed me love can be so much more.
So, what’s the problem?
The woman I’m falling in love with believes in fairytales. She compares everything to a storybook and wants the happily-ever-after.
So while she’s stuck on recreating stories that have already been told, page by page, I’m showing her it’s time we write our own book.
Nobody ever said the journey of falling in love would be easy, just that it would be worth it.

My Thoughts and Review:

Nicholas "Nick" Shaw was raised by parents who only cared about money, possessions, and fame.  They pushed him, and controlled his life so that he would make as much money as possible, which benefited them since his dad was his agent.  Despite all of this he grew up wanting a relationship built on love and full of emotion.  He didn't want women who only wanted him for his money.  His life was going pretty good until he suffered an injury that required him to take a year off from his career as an NFL Quarterback.  He thought it would be okay, he could focus on his life with his girlfriend.  Until he got home from the hospital to find her leaving him.  He spends his year off living it up with a buddy.  Then one night he meets her, his "brown-eyed girl".  But she disappears after one amazing night without any way for him to contact her again.

Olivia has spent her life running whenever things get tough.  Her mom dies, she moved to Paris where her mom was from.  Her boyfriend leaves her, she runs back to New York to visit family.  She meets Cole, they have an amazing night, and she runs back to Paris.  She finds out she accidently got pregnant from her one-night stand with Cole and runs home to New York to be with her family when her searches for Cole have turned up empty.

As luck would have is Olivia's Cole just happens to be the starting quarterback for the NFL team her father coaches, none other than Nick Shaw himself.  By this point Nick has gotten engaged to his longtime best friend as a business arrangement, and decided he doesn't want a family.  She goes into labor confronting him.  He makes assumptions that she is only after his money, not realizing all she really wants is the fairytale.  Eventually Nick realizes what exactly Olivia wants from him and sets out to win her heart, and more importantly, his family (her and their son).

This book is an incredibly well told tale about love over coming obstacles.  So many well written characters.  Characters you can't help but fall in love with, as well as characters you love to hate.  I absolutely loved how loving, supportive, and protective every member of Olivia's family (including her step-mom) and her friends were.  I loved the way Nick went above and beyond to give Olivia what she wanted, and deserved.  Their story is so incredibly sweet.
